When a Coffee Run Turns Into a Wild Visual Ride

It was supposed to be a simple trip — just a quick coffee run with Ryan between classes. Nothing special, just a quick caffeine boost to keep me cruising through the afternoon and maybe some light trash talk about the latest game drop. I swear, these coffee breaks always feel like a mini celebration when midterms loom like a dark cloud.

I grabbed the usual — a double espresso with a splash of milk — and figured I’d treat myself since it was Friday. Except, about halfway back to the library, that weird flickering in my vision started. You know what I’m talking about — those annoying blind spots that look like glitchy pixels invading your world. The edges blurred, and suddenly I was squinting at the campus courtyard as if it were some low-res game map.

A little panic snuck in, right on cue, like an unwanted NPC barging into the party. “Not now,” I told myself, heart racing. It’s funny how your brain can both freak out and try to stay chill at the same time. I kept telling myself I’d made it through worse, but the flashing shapes and zigzag lines made even reading the campus bulletin board a challenge.

Ryan noticed and just gave me that knowing look — the one that says “I’ve got you.” We found a shaded bench away from the sun and the chatter, and I pulled out my secret weapon: slow, deep breaths. I focused on the rhythm of inhaling and exhaling, letting the chaos settle, while Ryan went off to grab some water. Hydration’s my best friend when this happens, even if it feels like such a drag in the moment.

While I sat there, waiting for the aura to fade, I thought about how these moments are like unplanned side quests you don’t want but have to complete anyway. You can’t just rage quit or skip the cutscene; you have to sit through it, sometimes awkward and uncomfortable, but eventually, it passes.

By the time Ryan came back with the water and a goofy grin, my vision cleared enough to laugh. “Next time, maybe just tea?” I joked, trying to keep things light. It’s weird admitting you have limits, especially when you’re supposed to be a university warrior, juggling classes and social life like a pro. But maybe part of leveling up is knowing when to put down the controller and take a breather.

So yeah, coffee runs can be risky business. But with a little patience, hydration, and some good company, even a migraine-triggering detour can turn into something manageable.

Lesson

Sometimes, even a small caffeine boost can sneakily invite an aura along; recognizing the signs early and leaning on friends can make all the difference.
